I've never seen Star Wars and I'm in the mood for spacekino. Which versions would you recommend? Are any of the shows/sequels worth watching?

Just get the blu ray, don't be autistic

this

Star Wars is shit, watch Farscape instead

Fuckin based as fuck.

Farscape is probably the most kino space sci fi ever produced

the Mandaloria is the best starwars has ever been

Watch the Disney+ version for "Maclunkey" you won't regret it

1997 special edition

the 2004-2011 ones have too many problems
and the 1977 one is too old

someone will need to take the 2019 4k disney ones and fix them up to undo the retarded changes by splicing in the originals when neccesary

thats the worst one...

Double this.

The de-specialization and restoration projects are somewhat interesting in their own right, but they should be completely ignored for the purposes of a first-time casual watch. Just grab whatever official HD release you can find and watch it through like any other movie. It's better quality overall, and you probably won't miss or notice (or care) about any of the changes that were made.

Find the 4K UHD versions and then watch in this order:
>A New Hope
>Empire Strikes Back
>Phantom Menace
>Attack of the Clones
>Revenge of the Sith
>Return of the Jedi

Don't listen to them. Special editions are visual AIDS.

NO

you watch 4 5 6, 1 2 3, then 4 5 6 again to complete them in sequence and see them in a new context

>probably won't miss or notice (or care) about any of the changes that were made.
yes, but the end of rotj is totally ruined with the changes

The despecialized editions for Star Wars and The Empire Strikes Back. 4k83 for Return of the Jedi. Don't bother with the rest.

4K77 / 4K80 / 4K83 all the way, though 4K80 still needs a lot of work in terms of color correction and shit

why would you prefer despecialised for those two instead of 4k77 and 4k80 ?

CRAM MORE SHIT IN THE BACKGROUND WE NEED MORE SHIT IN THE BACKGROUND

Yeah you just have to get passed the first season to get to the good part, that's only fourty minutes time twenty episodes, ideal for someone who's looking to fill an evening by watching a movie

Right looks better

Why not despecialized for RotJ?

stfu the special edition was kino

til they ruined the colors in 2004 and broke rotj in 2011

btw, does the cutie with the hookah have a name? god that girl was hot.

I was in the same boat years ago as I hadn't seen star wars since I was a kid and had watched a ton of videos from turbo dweebs about how George Lucas 'ruined' the original trilogy, ended up watching whatever blu ray rip I could find on piratebay. Hon Solo shooting first for a frame or a big space creature blocking the shot for 3 seconds isn't going to ruin the movies for you or even really affect the experience

Nothing against the guys behind the despecialized edition though as I do think movie buffs should be able to watch movies as they were seen in cinemas when they originally released

2011 Blu-ray was the worst version to date.
Look into the 4k ones. Much better colour grading with HDR.
Sadly a bit too much filtered.

why didn't lucas just cut to a shot of chewbacca when he starts to walk behind and then cut back when han was on the other side

4k77 is way too grainy, the quality is atrocious at times, especially in the desert. Despecialized is the best of both worlds here. 4k80 isn't done yet, once it's got a proper colorgrading, it'll be the best version.
because 4k83 is perfect, that's why. The despecialized editions are mostly taken from the blurays and regraded, with the cg parts replaced by gout upscales. 4k83 is an actual restoration of the original cinema reels and it looks fantastic

Why add the scene at all
>redudant due to greedo scene
>ruins pacing
>ruins anticipation of jabba

Watch the despecialized version, the special edition ruins the original film with all this terrible CGI bullshit on screen.
Watch the original 3 first, don't bother with the prequels unless you really want more. Disney Star Wars is mostly just meh, basically just nostalgia porn at best so I doubt you'd care.

2019 disney+ 4k ones are the best visually, but some of the changes need to be undone for me to recommend them

stay away from the ones George Lucas came back and ruined. I've seen the Despecialized editions and they were good. never heard of 4K77. Just skip the prequels and Disney sequels and you'll be golden.

i can't wait until 4k80

really only a few tatooine shots look bad in 4k77 and i wouldn't be surprised if the film stock for those was completely different

Is Dolby Vision worth the much lower Bitrate?
Agreed, stop changing minor shit in movies.

BANTHAS WE NEED MORE BANTHAS

All shit.
Just watch the VHS.
