I don't think I've seen people (actual people, not Twitter bots) gushing for a movie like this, ever. Entering the theatre, leaving it, checking my WhatsApp groups. Everyone I know loves this film.

And I tried really hard not to like it, too. Then when the F-14 start-up sequence started, I couldn't deny that this film was worth the wait and more. I hope it gets enough of a surge to make records for Cruise. I'm definitely buying the Blu-Ray of this movie.

The original has the superior soundtrack, though, but then again, the original is probably one of the top five greatest movie scores of all-time, so it was a hard battle to come out victorious in, anyway.

I had the same thoughts on the soundtrack. Not as good but the 80s are over and no one else is touching what Kenny Loggins did. There are a few notes that really hit here like the horns when he's going up that elevator with the two jets on the carrier and the drum sounds during Dagger Attack. I got such an unmanageable erection during that takeoff scene.

He keeps politics and social agendas out of his movies.. It's not hard.

There's usually womyn power in his movies. Even if he's obviously the protagonist and gets a pretty -30 year old pairing.
