it's a really interesting paradox. The most thoroughly Brazilian Brazilians love America, and the most thoroughly Americanized Brazilians hate America.

I noticed that the Brazilian driver I once spoke to genuinely loved the USA. I know that he voted for Bolsonaro. But he seemed toughly Brazilian. His idea of America was: capitalism, powerful military, rich, and religious. And he loved it.

Conversely, the Brazilian foreign exchange student that my roommate dated hated America (although she was studying there). She seemed thoroughly Americanized, and other than her accent, she was pretty much an American already. I think she even planned to live in America. She always complained about America's fear of socialism, war-mongering, greed, and religious fanaticism; just like any female American college student would do.

It's like they have this huge blind-spot, where neither of them see the left-wing forces in America as American.
