Any country with a sane government should be on good terms with Russia, not out of love but out of necessity. They are a major power and they're pulling the strings in the east. Furthermore, Russia serves as a counterbalance to the ever-expanding grasp of the neoliberal west. Say what you want about the backwardness of East Europe, but at least I can walk down the street and not have to worry about being blown up by a peaceful Muslim or raped by a future doctor, engineer, IT specialist.

The Russian Muslim population is made up of the people who have already lived in the region Russia expanded into during their push towards east. The French Muslim population is made up of immigrants from Africa and the Middle East. And that would be fine and dandy if it weren't for the fact that there have been literal beheadings on the streets in France by the aforementioned Muslims.
