So, why couldn't Jimmy tell Lalo that Mike helped him out in the desert? He could say he knows Mike, not a lie, and that he owes him, not a lie, and that he asked for someone to watch his back while he was out there, a lie but 100% plausible. It would only make Lalo suspicious as to why, but either way he gets out of jail. He could say he didn't tell him who it was for and Mike could also make that claim. "I didn't ask any questions. I just did the job. He asked for a guy, I was the guy." What would Lalo do to Jimmy for this? What could he possibly think about Gus and Mike for this? It could be possible that Mike was just helping Jimmy with a job he knew nothing about.
