He was a big name photographer for all the important magazines and was known as controversial/trashy, something the magazines needed because they wanted to appear trendy.
He also was friends with all the rich and famous from the little exclusive New York club.
So everyone wanted to hook up with him thinking they could fast track their way either into success/popularity or regain their waning relevancy.
