No, dumbass, it's bad because he completely lost it, and in his anger instead of calling the police and testifying he kills.
But most importantly, he was going to kill Palantine, which was a really bad action that would have made him evil, but he thinks it through and does the better thing instead.
While not optimal, he in the end kind of redeems himself by going for the pedos instead of Palantine.
He also probably traumatized the kid for life and should have done it more carefully.
