It goes like this: Road bikes have groupsets. Groupsets are the brake-shifters, derailleurs and crank-sets. Basically the parts you interact with on the bike. For years Shimano has had 5 levels of group set: Absolute Trash, Trash, 105, Ultegra, and Dura Ace. 105 was pretty much the groupset of the people, it offered performance just shy or equivalent to their top spec gucci Ultegra and Dura Ace, but at a very reasonable price. I have a Shimano R7000 groupset right now and it's the best shifting setup I've ever put on a bike. As it stands, they have basically perfected the 105 derailleurs with a big leap forward to a revised geometry and capacity, all for 50-60 bucks.
But this is now the last generation of the mechanical 105 groupset. Shimano claims the "market" is signaling they need to offer yet another electronic group-set (Ultegra and Dura Ace have already gone this route). The new 105 is gonna be electronic and disc brake only. It's also heavier than the current mechanical system and it uses fucking wireless technology on the shifters for some retarded Goddamn reason (seriously why can't we hardwire a connection, especially since THE ROUTING IS ALREADY INTERNAL IN THE FRAME) so get ready to keep dozens of coin cell batteries around at all times. Why does this matter?
Because it means the affordable, good performing mid-range roadbike is going to be a relic of history. These electronic groupsets are expensive and that cost will figure into the base price of the bike itself. These newer bikes are also going to be HEAVIER than the older mechanical rimbrake models. You will be buying a much more expensive product that is somehow heavier and more sluggish than the 2014-2016 model year bikes I'm riding now. They will shift better, until you forget to charge a battery or keep a spare coin cell, then they won't be shifting at all.
That is the first time I've ever posted a short.
why is this guy famous
if u think about it furries are the contemporary medici
This is in microcosm exactly what's been happening in multiple industries: A consumer product that was formerly somewhat affordable becomes a luxury item suitable for purchase only by Boomers and the upper classes. The industries responsible for this claim they are just "following the market" although I'm not sure how much market is gonna be left when the Boomers die off and no one is around to buy a 14,000 dollar Specialized S-Works. (Yes I literally know someone that bought this bike and yes it costs more than a Yamaha R6 sportbike)
Because his dad was rich, and he's now rich, and he makes tiktoks that are boosted by the algorithm and enjoy genuine interest from zoomers because he's rich and says contrarian things.

As for as an American racial/cultural identity goes, it's really weird for me to see all this conversation completely overlooking actual American history. This is a country founded in 1776 that had a "whiskey rebellion" in 1791, a "Civil War" in 1861 that lead to Reconstruction and the tactical use of the Black population against White Southern interests followed by the "West Virginia Coal Wars" of 1912.
America has basically always been a corporate playground for big money interests that occasionally spark off shooting wars as a result of their naked avarice and the citizens of the USA have never been really united. I grew up with the vestiges of Southern American resentment towards the North and as a result felt absolutely nothing about 9/11 and the destruction of the Twin Towers up in Yankeeland.
The idea there is some common American heritage is itself totally ahistorical and opposed to the lived experience of actual Americans, a great many of whom would have absolutely loved to see the Confederacy win the Civil War, myself included.
Pointless posts going on right now
