They stopped their nuclear energy production because "muh risk of chernobyl!!" and switched to heavy reliance on Russian oil and gas, including the construction of nord stream 2 pipeline. They profit from 100k US troops being stationed in Germany as well as billions in US aid and being liberated by the US rather than the USSR but have selfishly never met their NATO commitment to spend a measely 2% of GDP on their military. Trump said nice things about Germany and talked about his German heritage. Trump didn't even bring a huge dog to meet Merkel, and yet Germany has the highest approval of Russia in Europe, even more than France.
