unironically his best. People only dislike it because they went in expecting a war movie or another crime thriller. It's a classic western set in a very unusual place and time period, but that novelty is what makes it work so well.

The movie doesn't hurdle a high bar by asking you to accept that a rouge Jewish paramilitary could have been hunting down Nazi commanders for fun. But when Hitler gets mowed down in a burning theatre by machine guns contrary to what history tells us, it ruins the suspension of disbelief in a jarring way. Then it just becomes revenge porn, yes. But for who?

Take Django Unchained for instance. Clearly Tarantino learned his lesson because there are no historically important characters. Even the outlandishness of a gun-slinging Freeman doesn't seem so egregious because it exists in its own bubble.
