It wouldn't be as bad if Waters could actually write, but if you've ever seen how good lyrics can be it really dispels the illusion that PF ever had good lyrics. The songwriting itself has been shit ever since they stopped working together, which goes to show that Waters was never some defining member in any way. Not to mention he kicked Syd off the band and then spent decades trying to make up for it with sentimental intros before playing WYWH in his concerts.
At least Gilmour can play and doesn't complain about things that happened 50 years ago even if he can't write lyrics for shit.

Waters writes conceptually rich but musically basic material, Gilmour writes soulful music with vapid lyrics and very little direction. Waters is the more based one as he managed to dominate a band of talented players, bend them to his will and steer them into massive success despite having little to no talent for writing or playing music.

Waters-Gilmour-Wright working together was peak, they all had to add or subtract from the others to make kino. When Floyd started getting Waters heavy it went to shit (Animals was still kino, but they had been playing versions of those songs in concert since like 1973 or something). Anyway it's hard to pick who's not a prick, because Waters didn't necessarily want to fully take over the band, after WYWH the other 3 guys stopped writing altogether, but Waters wanted to keep it going, so he basically had to do everything by himself while the rest just showed up to the studio and recorded then went home. Imagine Animals getting released or even WYWH then not getting another Floyd album until 1986. Maybe that would have been for the best, because the quality dropped anyway when they weren't working together
