China would have to be insanely stupid to try a direct invasion into Taiwan. The political and economic fallout from it would be pretty disasterous and in the end what do they get? A trade route and a populace that fucking hates their guts? Taiwan would just blow up their semiconductor factories to spite China and they'll be stuck with a very, very hot potato afterwards.
