I got essentially the same thing by a pretty slimey corporate manager when I worked in tech. They'd do this kind of "Team building/experience sharing" bullshit to weed out the people who had the balls to not put up with it. Over a short amount of time you'd build up a pretty solid base of capable but ultimately submissive drones that'll work longer hours for less pay because they've proven that they don't view themselves as valuable enough to put a stop to the shit tests. The best part? There's absolutely no way to prove it.
It's really quite Machiavellian in its brilliance.

Well yeah. As a manager, your job is to build a team that is cohesive and loyal. If someone actively refuses to be part of that, they're a bad fit. If you ever find yourself in charge of people one day, it's one of the first lessons you'll learn.
