I am a teacher and this is categorically untrue. Most of the time the kids receive no discipline at home, get told they are super smart and special, come to school with a massive chip on their shoulders and when they see they’re not any of that, they act up.

The funniest shit is when a kid thinks they can one up an adult and you say a single sentence and it paints them as an idiot for the rest of their school life. The kids who come in to learn and actually attempt to make something of themselves are so rare today. Maybe one in each class. The rest will be lucky to wind up with any full time work. The entire faculty of my school works their asses off to help the students achieve and grow but there are some who are complete write offs and we don’t bother anymore.

Parent teacher interviews are hilarious. Got men and women blaming us for their kids being assholes. I’ve been taken before the education board twice now for telling parents they’re the ones who have bred ill mannered fuckwits and it’s my job to educate them, not teach them to be good people. That’s a parents job.

The second time I got pulled up was because one mother said her son was having a terrible time at school and came home every day saying how unhappy he was. I listed off all her sons bullshit from bullying others to disrupting class to starting fights to stealing etc etc and she said he must be learning that at school. I said children model their behaviour on their parents, in most cases. She went nuclear.

Her son is going to be a wastrel his entire life. Anyway my point is, fuck that quote I do 70+ hour weeks of teaching, tutoring, mentoring, sport coaching and other extra curricular shit because I want the next generation to have a good chance at life and not being poor homeless idiots. All the teachers I know are the same. The ones who aren’t leave the profession within the first two years.
