Imagine what would have happened if when Rachel asked "Was it good?", instead of being a little bitch, Ross answered "Yeah, it was hot. She let me do anal and a bunch of other things you're too uptight about to do. But she was a one night stand and I'll take you back if you loosen up about everything."
Obviously she would have been mad but so what? What was she going to do? Ross had all the power. Monica is his sister, so even if she agreed Ross was being an ass, she's still going to side with him over Rachel. Chandler is his long time friend and no way he would pick Rachel over Ross. Joey comes along with Chandler. Which leaves Rachel with only Phoebe and it's not like those two were ever close.
That leaves Rachel pretty much friendless in New York City. The only reason why she left Long Island for the city in the first place was to use Monica as an escape chute from marrying Barry. She could stay in the city and try to rebuild her life, finding low quality friend replacements like Russ. How long would that last? Or she could slink back to Long Island, marry someone like Barry, and admit she couldn't make it in the city. Or she could go back to Ross and take it up the ass.
