They really are. I remember living in southern california a couple years ago and I knew this random former military chicano. He was pretty schizo and he told me how he has a problem calling black people the N-word to their face. That they ask him why he's racist despite being Hispanic and he says he doesn't feel Hispanic and that he supports "the white race" (his words). He said he thinks his grandparents were from Germany and Japan but they moved to Mexico.
