Ghana and Benin were historical West African polities, but they were in a different part of West Africa from the modern states named after them.

Albania used to be a place in the Caucasus (modern Azerbaijan). Mauretania referred to the magred north african. Ghana and Benin were ancient kingdoms in Mali and Nigeria respectively, not within the borders of the modern country.
