Evangelicals in the strictest sense believe that the only purpose of life on Earth is to serve the lord. Their life revolves around God and fulling his mission here on Earth. That's why you see so many of them deeply involved in politics, proselytizing, and can often be kind of cultish, because they believe this life doesn't matter, it's only about God (and Jesus of course).
