Basically there is some "statement", where they want to say that "all the prehispanic cultures are mexicas", while that is not remotely true.
México is bigger than a lot of european countries together, yet they say that "all were mexicas(aztecs)".
Imagine if someone conquered europe, like all of it, and they decide that "all the preconquest people were romans".
Mexico is so big, that there are a lof of genetic variation between the local population.
That is uterly bullshit, is like saying that a spainard is the same as a sweden or as a german.

I can understand it.

Yes, lots of government elements were frenchboos. They idolized France, and for them the ideal Portugal was becoming France lite.
