To show off status or that "yes I can build massive castle without any real burden". In this day and age there's no need to show off in these huge porjects because it's redundant. Everyone knows that you are rich and unless you are foreigner or you are some part of a demographic that is seen as poor and need to show wealth to distinguish yourself no one would question if you can put your money where your mouth is.
