It's a long story. I'll try and paraphrase it.

In 2015 I wanted to move to a different part of the country. In doing so I had to empty my rented apartment and have it repainted and set to the same level of quality as when I moved in, in order to get back my sizeable deposit which i needed to pay into my new apartment.
The landlord however discovered mould in the vents which I had been completely unaware of, and he refused to sign the release of my deposit in addition to sending me a bill for the estimate of having the mould removed, which was nearly double the amount I had paid in.

This led to a long and stressful period of time because I would lose my change to get the apartment I had planned on without the deposit. My sister approached me and suggested I ask her husband to lend me the money, which I was against but had little real choice as the bank wasn't going to help me. So I did and moved in while waiting for the renters union to finish working my case.

Around that time my grandmother had started to suffer from dementia and the fact that I had to borrow money from my brother-in-law whom she disliked made her very sad and agitated. Without me knowing, she had begun paying back my sister for my loan on my behalf without telling me. This wouldn't have been a problem if it wasn't for the fact that:

1. My sister kept the money herself and never gave them to her husband or even mentioned it to him, or me.
2. In her dementia, my grandmother would make the same payments several times over even AFTER my case ended and I paid back the loan, and she kept accepting the money.

She bled our grandmother for probably close to 190k or more up until her death a year ago. All the while my grandmother believed she was helping me and spent the time worrying and being sad. And even though I had assured her I had paid up and everything was fine, her dementia kept her coming back to the same worries that then led her to giving my sister more money.

Are you like poor and shit? Just give up the deposit!
