That's because most people are cheap fucks and don't spend on good design. Don't be a cheap fuck, hire Italian architects and you'll get real nice skyscrapers.

Well it has state of the art systems but my guess is the energy consumption is around the same as a regular skyscraper of the same size and system standard. What is more important that his creates high dense urban living (which is actually very eco friendly due to smaller footprint) that doesn't look shit. Like most high rises are fucking awful and this one looks decent enough that people actually do want to live here.
Again, find enough people who want this and are ready to pay the extra gardening fees and you're gold. In this case the demand is so high that the extra expenses are easily justified.
