For the last few hundred years, the East consisted of relatively sparsely populated lands dotted with large manors and farms. By far the biggest, most profitable cities and regions were in the west. Even before the Great War, Germans from the East were moving to the West in droves. It's where the jobs and money is.
The lost Eastern territories is a crime, no doubt, but the only thing there is the cultural connection those regions and cities had towards what once was Prussia. Even if the Eastern territories were recovered today, it would take 100 years and billions of dollars for them to be on the same level as East Germany. The slavs have mismanaged and ruined these regions beyond repair. It's over now, just let it go; most Germans already have.

"Forever" is a very strong word, as things are currently practically all Germans are content and don't much care for it, the economy is doing much too well for anyone to really complain. However, the future might not be so bright, and I wouldn't be surprised if, by the time I die, the eastern borders have moved again

I actually think it's a good thing, anything that's under German control automatically becomes ugly and gay, a Polish Danzig or Breslau is definitely better as I can easily visit these cities and feel like I'm in Europe and not in Eastern Turkey (Germany).
