Try it out and see for yourself. The fleshed out courses are actually very good as a beginner resource. Do a few lessons per day for a month (literally not even 30 minutes of daily effort) and then either continue or drop it. You may drop Duolingo sooner if you really dislike it :^)
The main criticism comes from Duolingo being lacking when you use it as your only resource while it is not that efficient in terms of what you learn per hour of using it.

Eh, non ci si dovrebbe lamentare. Stavo parlando con la ragazza che e si è seduta sulla mia sedia e le nostre si toccavano.
