ITT: silly international misconceptions you had when you were young

I thought all of China was under totalitarian Buddhist regime.
I though Italians, Mexicans, and Spaniards were all the same people.
I thought all Jews either came from Poland or Israel.
I thought Germans spoke with Russian accents.

I thought America was the best place in the world. I still quite like it. I try to not be too americaphobic because they have a lot of interesting culture despite all their flaws ;)

>I thought America was the best place in the world.

Kek. Why would you believe that? America has been shit for quite a few decades.

I thought Argentina and croatia was african since they sound african
I also thought france had territory in Britain because everyone at my school was french and i learnt about the 100 years war

I was 11 lol
lmao the seethe
I didn't even insult you my obese friend

I got the Dakotas and Koreas mixed up and though Kim Jong Un was an insane North Dakotan governor trying to blow up South Dakota

I thought america didn't have racism because they have so many black people

I thought everyone spoke English as a second language at least.
I thought Mexico was a state.
I thought Ireland was a mythical place.
I thought all Brits were evil masterminds.

>I thought America was the best place in the world.
Depending on how old you are that may have been true when you thought it.
Last 10-15 years has been real rough here.

The rest of the world has become even more shit. The US was a shithole compared to the rest of the world 15 years ago but not it's the best.

I thought everybody was equal

it was 2012-2014, around that time
so definitely a bit late ;D

I thought the US meant UK/England

I thought Japan was just one giant city

I thought Holland was its own country

I thought America was Armenia on the map and America was just some small powerful landlocked country.

I thought China was the continent and Asia the country

I thought Europe was white. Not meant to be race bait, I was just genuinely shocked when I went to London

I actually unironically thought Columbus was Polish, because in Polish he's just called Krzysztof Kolumb, and that sounds like a normal name tbqh.

Oh and most importantly of all.

I didn't know white people were Europeans. We learned about the history of New Zealand at school and when it got the European colonization chapter I was like "Wow, these European guys seem cool, I wonder what they were like".

So much of the world is still under influence from the American Dream propaganda released back then. Grandparents in Korea still believe that in America is still the best country in the world.

I thought Pakistan was very strong and some sort of alien planet

Christophoros Kolomvos was Greek actually

I thought Japan was larger than China and that the south pole was hot since the north pole is cold

I thought all the Balkan peninsula was Greece
