I don't understand how they are different from any other pow. Couldn't Ukrainians just label every Russian soldier as a "foreign mercenary" and just shoot them on sight. I think killing pow for some stupid reasons will just bring more hate for Russia, but let them do as they like.

They think they're sending a "signal" for "foreign powers" despite two of them having Ukrainian citizenships after moving there and marrying.

Because they have at no point been on Russian land or threatened Russia, they've only been defending an innocent country that was attacked. And on top of that, two of them are Ukrainian nationals. Why though? How is a mercenary (if we assume these are actually mercenaries not foreign volunteers or just volunteers) different from a regular fighter? Most Ukrainian soldiers are paid for their service, are they mercenaries? What about a Ukrainian with a double citizenship, is he a mercenary? What about a foreigner married to a Ukrainian woman living in Ukraine and enlisting in the Ukrainian army, is he a mercenary?
Again, this thing is fucking stupid, a pow is a pow and should be treated according to international law, end of story.
