There is a different between shorthand and printed scripts. Why would I use 行書 when I'm writing in 楷書体?making 行書 shorthands into printed block forms is ridiculous

Japanese simplified scripts are based on common historic variants. Also more aesthetically balanced following calligraphic customs. Meanwhile simplified Chinese is a disaster.

If done in moderation, there doesn't have to be. Some of the forms were regularly in use already, even in printed texts.
Even if they are cursive forms, they are still usable as a general script.
Besides, 文言文 was already replaced. They don't stand to lose much by standarizing alternative forms of the characters.
