DJT - Daily Japanese Thread #2914

DJT is a language learning thread for those studying the Japanese language.
Japanese speakers learning English are welcome, too.

Read the guide linked below before asking how to learn Japanese:

Please correct my challenge. I'm sure there are countless mistakes in this one.

この暑さは拷問です…

そしたらこんなに心がざわざわすることもこんな気になることもなかったのに

"if that the case I wouldn't be so agitated and there wouldn't be a weight in my mind"?

こともなかったのに feels like a specific grammar I can't recall.

Do these Japanese Pod 101 videos help for someone in N5 with a fair amount of N4 knowledge?

Also, can you put です after 勉強する, or is する like ます to where it negates the です?

>Do these Japanese Pod 101 videos help
hmm in my experience it's boring, but if you like it then maybe..
>can you put です after 勉強する, or is する like ます to where it negates the です?
I don't understand the question but you can't say 勉強するです
You should say 勉強します if you want it to sound polite

I mean you can say 勉強するんです, but it means different thing than 勉強します

>for someone in N5 with a fair amount of N4 knowledge?
Ditch the meaningless classifications and read more

And technically you could say 勉強するです I think, but it's not common and it doesn't mean "I study".
For now just don't use it. Think that verbs end with ます and nouns end with です

This

>勉強するです
There can't be a universe in which this is correct as is.

>I don't understand the question but you can't say 勉強するです
Thank you.

Basically most of my knowledge comes from interaction with a native speaker (hapa) I had back in 2015. She said to use する for 勉強, and that you can't use です after ます since they're both sentence enders.

The fact that I'm having trouble expressing my level shows that the classification doesn't really apply to me; I was just using it to try and simplify things.

I can't string together a sentence but I understand a lot of particles and the like.

風邪を引いたそうだ
エアコンやりすぎた

But what is のに doing?

Expressing regret

>そしたら
>こんなに心がざわざわすること
>も
>こんな気になること
>も
>なかった
>のに
It's doing what it's normally doing everywhere else.
