Depends on your definition of effective. Free market allocation is more "effective" in that it gives people what they want. But dunno if that is good for planet and humanity in the long run. Maybe eating bugs and sleeping in pods would be more effective and only thing that could give as those is either a great propaganda campaign that makes people want those things or central planning forcing it upon population.
