Power in Algeria was always more distributed and our politics less dick-swingy, making the system more resilient, and our national sentiment was solidified by decades of shared struggle. This is why when a civil war broke out in the 90s, the county was able to survive, because people refused to let foreigners intervene, and the fall of the older regime didn't lead to a collapse of the state.

The french didn't treat Algeria like the other colonies but wanted to turn it into an actual province of France, they sent thousands of settlers there and treated the native people like third class citizens in their own land, plus the independence war was brutal and many Algerians died while liberating their country, french were complete pieces of shit in this case
