Youtube's algorithm fucked him after the Orange Fool and follow-up. Even though he's one of the nicest people you'll ever meet his channel started having videos not populate, even for people who have been subscribed for a decade. He also had a lot of pushback off of some living history videos he made that talked honestly about slavery, like the 'foods of the enslaved' and the ones about the gravity feeder brewery and the history around it.
This lead him to have to pursue another option, which is now Townsends Plus. He's so busy making TP that he regularly lets other people do the two weekly videos, despite knowing the viewership ratios are infinitely lower for them. He knows if someone sees the fat guy with the glasses or the thin blacksmith they'll likely turn the thing off. Youtube has pushed him to this point and he's already moved past it. It's just a secondary hosting site now, like it is to plenty of other content creators.
