Most of these best "cinematography" posts on social media contain mostly of these kinds of shots.
1) Overuse of Silhouettes 2) Shots in the twilight hour 3) Neon light/Bisexual lighting 4) Shots in the dark with one or two primary colors popping. 5) Underlit scenes in order to fool people into thinking the movie has a noir feel
All those things look cool, chud. If it was done in one of your boomer films you would be raving about it. So because it's someone like Villeneuve or Matt Reeves doing it instead of Argento you chimp out.
I don't have anything against the techniques themselves. They've just become overused and poorly used to bait plebs. Just compare this with your pic.

Most of these are aping Blade Runner but poorly IMO. I don't remember any shots in BR where the neon light colors overwhelm the shot like that. Pic related is how it looked most of the time.
I actually agree with you. The general public is easily impressed by color-grading and scenes that look like perfume commercials.

You are not as unique as you think, you are only interested in things that are trending.

Sometimes it's useful paying attention to SM trends. Filmmakers seem to do and they pander to it. Ever wonder why you're increasingly seeing meaningless long takes a lot in films these days?
