The Chinese state seems to claim anyone of Chinese or partial Chinese ancestry as their own and tries to claim their allegiance as well. I don't know if it actually works in practice but they could try.

Countries accross the world based on being the same ethnicity doesn't work. In practice: Australia Canada and NZ are not apart of the UK. I guess similar would be Pakistan/east Pakistan becoming Bangladesh (not same ethnicity but same religion) - also makes Gandhi's idea of one unified India being viable laughable. Why would it even work anyway, not like Taiwian 100km away is running into the arms of the bugman commie party
