There are rich neighborhoods throughout the city actually but surrounded by literal boarded up urban wasteland. Islands of activity in this sea of desolation. They have an Italian neighborhood on a hill. A hip bar street. A nice restaurant region. An old French style colonial part. A downtown with fed reserve offices. A famous medical school and university with a Whole Foods three blocks from literal wasteland. A bit surreal.
