Well, wasn't Dan O'Bannon himself going to attempt the effects? Like, I loved the guy, and his cranky old writer-man personae that he has in the Alien bluray boxset is amazing.
But theres no possible way on earth he would have been able to do the miniature and visual effects himself. Even Rob Bottin has to have help on the Thing.
