Why does Vikings get progressively worse? Spoilers ahead.
The first and second season had some good messages about masculinity and some cool fight scenes.
As the series goes on, Lagertha becomes Earl, by killing her husband who was the Earl, which is a joke because this would never have worked this way. Then they travel to Wessex, where Lagertha sleeps with king Ecgberht and the Prince’s wife Judith has sex with Athelstan. Later, Judith sleeps with her father in law, the same King. Don’t even get me started about that vapid character Cwenthryth who literally has an implied gangbang scene.
It gets even worse as Lagertha leads an army of “shield maidens” into battle while she is pregnant. Most unrealistic nonsense. Then, she becomes the Queen and is in a lesbian relationship. By the end of season 4 all the dialogue is utter cringe and the historical inaccuracies and degeneracies are near unbearable.
Did new writers join the show at some point? Why did it get so bad?
It never was much of a good show other than having Travis Fimmel being based or Katheryn Winnick getting everyone hard. The actual viking drama kino is The Last Kingdom.

Only the two first seasons were good, the third was shit and the fourth was good only until Ragnar departure. The kids revenge was good but they can't carry the show, they pretend to much to act like Fimmel. Lagertha is the worst character.

Its been shit and historically inaccurate since episode one. It's impossible for the western media to make period pieces which actually stay true to the period. Not even the best historical dramas (like Rome, Black Sails, The Borgias) get it right.
No modern man can come even close to possessing the mindset to accurately understand, let alone depict long gone historical eras.

It may be technically a prequel to treasure island but it's set in a historical period and follows famous historical figures. It literally is a historical drama. Whether it's accurate or not is another story
