>Paul Thomas Anderson’s most famous films, Boogie Nights and There Will Be Blood, cursed America. But Licorice Pizza lifts the curse with every seemingly spontaneous moment of young adult discovery. This is easily the American eccentric’s best film because his usual indie-movie flaws — obscure themes, cynical perspective, and technical showing-off — are mitigated by a rare, relatable narrative. The 1970s story about California youth on the margins of show business speaks to every American teen’s sense of belonging to a great, bountiful country. Gary (Cooper Hoffman) and Alana (Alana Haim) don’t exactly know how things work, but their determination to participate in the party makes them soulmates.

>obscure themes
Wut? Which PTA movie has obscure themes?

He looks like a chad version of his dad

Porn, Stoner detective, A tailor, An oil driller.
The themes aren't obscure, but the context and his protagonists sure are.

'The Master' was the fucking worst. God I hated that movie.

Liquorice Pizza just reminded me too much of all those sappy indie adolescence romcoms. Ruby Sparks, Perks of Being a Wallflower, Digby Goes Down, etc… and it seems to follow the trend of having a “le quirky” title as well.

Same. By far his worst.

The Master is one of his best and is a good character study on the interplay of the Id, Ego, and Super Ego. Plus all the Scientology parallels are tasty too.

Those arent themes, you are just describing the main character

Licorice Pizza is not a "quirky" title, it's the name of a record store chain

I was supposed to fall in love with the character of Alana....r-right guys? this jewess cast a spell on me. im so conflicted ;_;

People pretend like all that Freudian shit is interesting, but it’s really just a bore

I glorified california so much because of movies/shows/history and when I actually went to visit LA, it was an unredeemable shithole. I imagine it's how the japanese feel when they visit paris
san diego was nice though but 10% state tax for illegals is not worth it

It’s not the ideas that are interesting, but the drama and acting. The ideas are only there to show you a logical parallel and give you a sense of how such ideas may have formed in history, through the interplay of such characters. It’s very pseudo-historic in that way.

>it’s not a quirky title it’s the name of this place that used a quirky name
Ok bro

resistance is futile

It's a quirky name, I'll pee on your shoes.

How can you study something that doesn't exist about a character? Id, ego and super ego is made up, it has no relationship with reality.

It’s a psychological theory made by a person and is a real thing in history regardless of whether the theory is good or not.

great picture desu

She looks like one of those Modigliani paintings
