Natural resources will never be phased out. Everything you own is made out of natural resources. The only way “phase out” is to live like it’s the Middle Ages.
Btw even in Middle Ages iron and coal were used.

i don't see how something like nickel or natural gas will get phased out. even if natural gas is a fossil fuel and muh electric vehicles get more popular natural gas will still be needed to produce artificial fertilizers, medicine, plastics etc

Yeah, but the specific resources will change. The two biggest producers of uranium are Kazakhstan and DRC. What's a world where those 2 countries have the power that Iran/Iraq/Saudi/Russia currently have with oil? China and Chile are similarly the big 2 countries that produce lithium.
