The more I learned about the mongol empire the less impressed I was.
For example, they were only in Europe for around 40 odd years from 1259 to 1294, and never got any further than Ukraine or Belarus.
Meanwhile the Ottomans were able to stay in Europe for close to 500 years.

Everyone one the Mongols pissed off had already got their vengeance against the Mongols hundreds of times over. Case in Point the Romanovs & Ming/Qing China destroying the Mongols throughout the 1500s-1700s. During these Conflicts, the Chinese pulled off one of history's most successful genocides which wiped out an entire Mongol subgroup off the face of the Earth.
Today they exist merely as an impoverished buffer state between China and Russia, with most of their people existing as Chinese citizens. They're allowed their "muh Khans" LARP as its the only thing they have.
