Unironically it's the whole le underwear on the outside meme and The Incredibles jokes about no capes. Of all the things that people need to be realistic about superhero films, for some reason costumes need to be some kind of combat suit that dipshit audience members think would be viable in a fight. Interesting costumes are somehow too cheesy for quippy marvel trash.

They try to make them look practical while paying homage to the original designs. It's another case of them being embarrassed of the source material and the fact that 90% of the costumes are all form over function, but that doesn't fucking matter because it's a comic book where fucks can fly and shit.
