Why do video game adaptations never capture the soul of the game they're adapting?

They are adapted for their pre-existing audience, not because the producers love the source material.

I mean for fucks sake all it is is some visual and musical cues. But no, hollywood decides on making gay porn instead.

At this point, games are better productions than movies.

The are a few differences between the industries that are the reason why games aren't considered "art" yet, but one of the main reasons is video games is a much younger industry than filmmaking, and that games are an off-shoot of the technology industry, as opposed to requiring performing artists. But games require talent and artists to be good, and Hollywood doesn't want games to outdo them.

Games can’t be adapted to film in the same way that capeshit will never be properly adapted to film. Theres too much stylization with how the characters, world and general content is presented that leaves more to be desired than film allows.

because vidya is a vastly different media from shit like movies even if they can similarities simply due to the fact vidya is far more interactive, a close equivalent is trying to make a movie that captures the feeling of playing tag with friends, you can't really capture the magic of it

Nah its possible if you genuinely love the source material and want to adapt it. Even using your example as example, if you read event comic books Avengers Infinity War felt just like that, but in movie form. Obviously they had to actually like what they were adapting. The key is taking these fantastical things and making them work/look like if they were real. Not just copying how it looked int he source material and stuff.

Games are mostly soulless.

The soul of a game is in playing it. If the soul of a game was in watching it then it's not a good game.

I'm tired of pretending vidya games are some high art shit. Get real, Ebert was based and right.

Cause the "people" doing the adapting are soulless.

Based supergiant

That’s what the Sonic movies are doing. They hinted at these fantastical planets/realms where the classic Sonic level could exist and the slowly introducing plot lines and story arcs from the games like Sonic meeting Tails and Knuckles as an antagonist… slowly building up to the adventure era games and possibly even Chaos in the Knuckles show. Silent Hill did this as well where they changed aspects of the town and lore but kept the feeling of dread and otherworldly horror.

Ebert was a retard. He thought movies were art.

Who the fuck ever claimed they were high art? Retard.

obviously i don't watch that many kids films but the first sonic film was the best kids movie i've seen since Shrek. Blown away by how well-paced it was and how it captured the feeling of sonic whilst also doing its own thing.

If they showed Ebert a good video game instead of fucking Braid then he probably would have changed his mind. Games have stagnated since Far Cry 2 anyway.

I did.

Killing Ayy Lmaos is fun when you're doing it yourself, but not as fun when you're watching it, so movies have to rely on characters and writing.
Hardcore Henry is the only faithful adaptation of FPS games.

I suppose there's rarely any genuine passion involved. Some think they can improve upon it and others don't understand it at all. I figure this Halo adaptation is only being completed after all this time because Paramount is using it to push their streaming service.

The video games industry already makes more money than film. I'm surprised there isn't more box office type talk about new releases, it would be really fascinating to compare releases over the years.

Yup, I really like that but I havent seen the movies so I will have to take your word for it. Looks like 2 will be lots of fun so I will finally check it out

CoD:MW2 is better than any action movie.

>The soul of a game is in playing it.
Came to say this. Plus most games, while they can have a story, the experience is not very heavily tied to it. Games are more like traveling or having a hobby. A Grand Canyon movie (about the canyon, not some other story just set there) would equally have little soul. Or Stamp Collecting: The Motion Picture.

Arcane didn't just capture the sovl of League, it bestowed sovl upon an otherwise sovless franchise.
