The Kung Fu Panda and How to Train Your Dragon movies were way better than pretty much every Pixar release post-Toy Story 3. Pixar's been coasting on brand recognition for ages.

The two advantages pixar ever had were being able to have some serious moments and their animation quality. It's become much easier for animated films in general to look good and most of the original pixar staff are gone or moved to other studios. Even disney animation separate from pixar tends to look better these days.
