They are just advertisements for the movies now. The fact that capeshit like Black Panther is considered one of the "best movies of all time" by critics completely killed the profession

AV Club has gone to absolute shit and it was always 75% cringe, but when they were doing "Film Club" reviews with Alex Dowd and Ignatiy Vishnevetsky, those were very enjoyable and had a similar feeling to Siskel & Ebert. Both of them wrote very good reviews for the site as well
Unfortunately both critics have left the AV Club and haven't really seemed to land anywhere else yet, so the series is no more

Even NC and RLM praise every big movie that comes out, every marvel movie they'll give some milquetoast mild criticism then spend 20 minutes talking about why the garbage movie was amazing. Film reviews are dead.
