In english it is approximated to /on mæs/ by most. Some uninformed people might pronounce it differently though.

Yeah it seems to be mostly yanks always butchering French originated words and phrases. "Niche" is especially grating.
It's supposed to be read ON mass. But Americans say "en" mass.
