Pure kino.

Genuinely one of the best-directed anime of all time that isn't something like a Studio Ghibli film.

it's a good premise that turned to shit

>you could use the book to get ahead and save people
>I WILL BECOME GOD
yikes

it was kino and should have ended when kira bested L

>save people
>death note

first thing he does in the anime

It kind of fell apart after the Kira vs L kino ended

>kill off best character like 5 chapters in
>somehow still salvageable
>kill off 2nd best character which is also a perfect stopping point
>nope let's keep going
>everything falls to shit
when will people learn, 0 likable characters = garbage

>remember it being an amazing 2000 IQ cat-and-mouse game with mind-blowing gambits every episode
>rewatch it
>there're only like 3 actual smart moments

The part where he kills the bum by making him 'see a monster' by tricking him into touching the Death Note page is so funny in retrospect because he didn't need to be clever about it at all, the Death Note literally controls people's actions either way

trapping the door with obvious and subtle nuances is genius.
watching a portable tv in the potato bag is genius.
tricking the fbi agent wife, getting the bus criminal to see ryuk, forcing rem to kill L, giving up the notebook and arranging to get it back while amnesiac,

But Light is at the very least entertaining as a protagonist. Who is this best character? The FBI agent's hole?

L must've known he was Kira the whole time so why did he let himself just die like a bitch.

if rem didnt kill l would light have lost?

he couldn't prove it

So? He knew it was him you can't convince me otherwise. Even if he was curious about the method he should've just taken him out rather than being a stupid moral fag.

he probably would not be able to prove how he did it even if he could prove it was him. if he killed or arrested light early.

Light tricked him with the fake rule too.

Who is literally Light Yagami here?

He knew the second he talked to him in the classroom. The point of the ENTIRE cat & mouse game was L getting PROOF that it was Light.

I feel like Obata had the ending and beginning premise planned out, then filled in the details and accidentally wrote himself into a hole where he had to kill L. Hence deus ex Near.

yes, seems pretty obvious
that is precisely the gambit is it not?
rem needed to save their asses
