The only good gore is over-the-top, red dye no.5 mixed with corn syrup, explosive diarrhea a la Poultrygeist Night of the Chicken Dead.

"Realistic" gore is not kino. At worst it's heartbreaking. At best it's underwhelming.

Basically if there's gore and I'm not laughing at it, it's probably done poorly.

I watched the first episode of Mr. Mercedes and within like five minutes a baby gets run over by a car and explodes into gore right into the camera and I said out loud "OH MY FUCKING GOD". First time gore has gotten me in a while.

Check out Brawl in Cell Block 99 too. The director's pretty good at depicting brutality.

The Hatchet movies are really low budget.
