As much as i like his movies, he had no idea what he was talking about here. Tolkien does in fact care about each of his creations, he even refrains from saying that orcs are irredeemable, and that there is actually a chance for healing to occur. Miyazaki is quick to blast away at fantasy but doesn't go into detail how his gook-ass ancestors massacred each other just 60 years prior.

Bad take because these kinds of battles don't really happen in his works. Mordor is a militarized zone of evil, and all their battles against evil are of a defensive measure.
That said, while I would say you can watch/read LOTR without paying attention to much of the racialism in it, it is definitely an explicitly racialist work. All the humans who fell to the corruption of Melkor and later Sargon are described as non-white and have corresponding features to real world Asians and Africans. All the good guys are explicitly white, and even among these the hierarchy in terms of power, beauty and so on is defined by their blood purity. The Elves are the fairest of all creatures, the High Men ennobled by the Elves were of a higher blood purity than the Middle Men who mixed with lesser castes and so on. These things are all central if you want a 'real' understanding how racialism is in Tolkien, but like I said maybe not necessary to point out as a big deal.
