Because for boomer worldview, this movie was just unbelievable and therefore amusing, something like "oh my, imagine our daughter dating a midget chechen warlord how do we react?? Or a nigger lmao!!!" They felt that chances of that happening was very rare.

This movie was very much of it’s time though. It’s a good one but definitely a response to the racial turmoil of the 60s and the end of segregation.
An ahead of it’s time film would be Imitation of Life from 1959, which is about a white mother and black mother living together as they take care of their girls, with the mixed daughter doing everything she can to pass as white as she grows up. It’s a very interesting look at race through very sad eyes — and something that still happens today.
