Yes.

I imagine it's impossible in non-white places.

british people dont read

not really, they usually exist in middle and above class old neighbourhoods (though not really in new suburbs), colour of the residents' skin in the hood has little to do with it

In some cities and towns people started putting old fridges around for people to pick and put books in, it's supposedly a thing in mine but I've never seen those fridges, in my state's capital I've seen "put 1, take 1" free book stands, but I don't know how common these are.

Yes, there are tons of these around me. They're great.

They exist and function in non-white neighborhoods too.

what city or town

Yes they are common here.
Better question is has anyone found anything good in them?

Oh yeah, I think I saw a few that look exactly like this on my walks

Yes. But I guess this wouldn't have been possible ~20 yrs ago because it would be vandalised right away.

Why? what was happening in Lithuania 20 years ago?

The society was less civilised back then.

Yes but they always have shit books and most of them are from the local church
I did cop metamorphosis once and left a copy of the book of mormon

I've seen something similar in my town but they are locked. I saw them in Mexico City metro and people often left shit like pc manuals or jehovah witnesses books.

would be impossible in my city

Yes. Sometimes little food pantries too with necessities

No. Just go to the library

I live in Portland, OR but I've seen them in various locations.

I don't know why some people think it impossible, real libraries exist and trashy people don't care about books. Most of the little libraries I see do have religious stuff but they also have a lot of children's books because kids read them and put them back. It's nice.

A milkman brought milk to Lithuania 30 years ago, the exact same socialist thing existed except it was for milk being brought for everyone.

Not where I live, but I've been to places that do. Pretty neat.

In my town they're usually hidden along trails. Residential and agricultural plots often abut with public trails; some homeowners hide tiny free libraries behind trees and in the brush right along the property line.

They're usually full of junk books, like those crap romance novels from the checkout lane. There's a green one that has classic reprint books, like Jules Verne or Camus or whoever. I've donated a few of my old university literature novels to that free library before.

which town issis? sound cozy, I need to get out of the big city
