Harry was lucky as fuck really that he could exchange his soul for the horcrux because he had no idea that's how it would go down. He went to Voldemort thinking he was going to die and that was it. Dumbledore literally ruined at least a few dozen people's lives and planned the death of even more people just for the sake of an autistic and overcomplicated plan. Aside from it all culminating in Harry dying, he also cared very little, if at all, about Ron and Hermione, the countless students who risked their lives and/or died in the final battle, Snape (who got to do the dirty work of killing him), McGonagall (whom he never let in on any of his plans), Hagrid (who was always just a useful idiot) or any of the other teachers. He ruined every single Dark Arts teacher's life for more than four decades by not leaving the position vacant or simply rebranding the subject, even though that had nothing to do with his plan in the first place. And he also knew that Voldemort would go after Harry's or Nevill's families after their births, but did nothing of value about it.

Yes he knew he was that last horcrux but he didn't know the killing spell could simply take the horcrux in exchange. Remember most people know fuck all about how horcruxes work and even less about how death works. Harry knew he had to die but he had no idea he could just let the Horcrux take the spell and go on living. That's why he goes to the forest with the stone to see his parents and Sirius for what he thinks is the final time to ask how death feels
